Akulivik Woman Recalls Encounter With Hairy Bigfoot - Nunatsiaq Online

NEWS: Nunavik October 12, 2012 - 4:05 pm SPECIAL TO NUNATSIAQ NEWS This photo that Maggie Cruikshank posted on Facebook shows what she believes to be the footprint of the creature she saw last month near Akulivik.
This photo that Maggie Cruikshank posted on Facebook shows what she believes to be the footprint of the creature she saw last month near Akulivik.

JUSTIN NOBEL

Maggie Cruikshank of Akulivik has an incredible story to tell.

Late in the afternoon on a rainy, windy September Saturday she and a cousin went out from Akulivik to pick berries.

“We moved around a lot because we were looking for big berries,” said Cruikshank, a 46-year-old language teacher with the Kativik School Board.

“My cousin noticed something — she thought it was a hunter, but I ignored her because I wanted to go home while the sun was still up. Then, she started to be scared. I got up and looked to where she pointed. It was a very large animal, a bigfoot.”

The creature was black, hairy and without any clothes. “Taller and larger than a man,” said Cruikshank. “It walks like us but not standing straight like us, it can jump and crawl.” And its footprint measures some 40 centimetres.

Other people in Akulivik have seen the creature too, according to Cruikshank. A group of walrus hunters who had just returned with their catch were preparing to hide their meat under rocks for the winter when they saw the bigfoot. Someone else noticed it by the airport.

Other people have reported odd collections of caribou bones piled in the hills outside town, Cruikshank said. An elder found what he said were human bones in a cave outside town and suggested to her the remains might be the work of the bigfoot.

And just last week, apparently, someone spotted fresh bigfoot tracks. Someone else reportedly saw the creature standing on top of a mountain.

It’s possible the creature has been around for some time.

“There are people telling me they suddenly remember they have seen that thing before,” said Cruikshank. “Like 10 years ago or 20 years ago or 60 years ago, they saw it, they just never reported it.”

Why not? Perhaps their stories didn’t hold up, or perhaps they were scared others would mock them.

As Cruikshank has learned, there’s a lot of hullaballoo involved in taking a bigfoot sighting public. Photos of the footprint she posted on Facebook have drawn significant attention, including a great deal of criticism.

“Nobody… gonna believe until the video is reveal…” commented a Facebook user named “Arctic Charles”.

The photo that Cruikshank posted shows a hand with a yellow measuring tape stretched across a rough-looking footprint made in spongy ground.

It’s pretty clear the photo is real, and the muddy imprint indeed resembles a footprint, but footprints don’t make for good sighting stories. Facebook users have been calling for something more substantial.

“If you have video footage of the bigfoot, you can charge hundreds of thousans [sic] per frame,” said one commenter. “But please, show us the video once you get the money.”

“That footprint is not fake,” explained a third person. “However, it was done by muskox that slipped.”

There is a video, said Cruikshank, shot by her and her cousin. But she is afraid that making it public could have devastating results in the small community.

“Many people want to see the video and are starting to make negative comments,” said Cruikshank. “We want to post it but we don’t want to scare the children.”

Bigfoot may not be the only otherworldly creature in Akulivik.

In the past few years, said Cruikshank, residents have sighted little Inuit, known as Inugagulligaq, as well as giant animals, including a massive anaconda snake, a very large codfish and monstrous rabbits. Other people have reportedly seen a half-man half-fish creature, like a mermaid.

As fantastic as these creatures sound, they do resemble beings that hold a very real place in Inuit cosmology. There is Sedna, the goddess of the sea and marine mammals, Ijiraq, a shape shifter that kidnaps children and Kiviuq, a young Inuit hunter with supernatural powers.

For many, these beings are merely the stuff of legends, and don’t exist here in the real world. But not for Cruikshank.

“I’m not telling you lies,” she said. “This is scary, it has affected my emotions.”

Bigfoot Roams Panola County, Sighting Reported - The Panola Watchman

Believe it or not, a bigfoot sighting has been reported in Panola County.

A caller whom Panola County Sheriff Jack Ellett referred to as a reliable source contacted the Sheriff’s Office Thursday evening, October 3, 2012, to report the sighting around 9 p.m. He said he knew it sounded crazy, but he thought he had seen a bigfoot creature. He said he would have felt bad if someone got hurt by the creature, so he notified the authorities of the sighting as a precaution.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller said he was headed home from Louisiana and when he crossed the state line on FM 123, he saw the creature. He said it was really big and strange looking. It was crouched down in the ditch, and as he drove by, it stood up. The creature appeared to be 7 feet in height, and had yellow eyes, the caller stated. He said it was very creepy looking, and although he knew it could be someone pulling a prank, but if it was, the person did a better make-up job than Hollywood.

The caller assured the dispatcher he was not crazy, had not been drinking and would take a lie detector test to prove it if needed.

PSCO Deputy Adam Jones was sent to check the area. He through the area but was unable to locate Bigfoot.

Information about other sightings in East Texas can be found online, including the following websites:

Bigfoot Research Gets Lift from Stealth Airship - Yahoo News

Past expeditions to find conclusive evidence for the existence of Bigfoot have at least two things in common: They were unsuccessful, and they were ground-based.

That's why the Falcon Project will make history regardless of whether it achieves its goal of capturing "clear, steady film evidence of a Hominoid in its natural habitat."

Using a 45-foot-long (14 meters), camera-mounted, remote-controlled airship, project founder William Barnes plans to work with a team that includes one scientist to conduct nighttime flyovers of reported Bigfoot hotspots around the United States.

Barnes, a gold dredger whose current endeavor was inspired by an alleged encounter with a Bigfoot-like creature he claims to have had in 1997, thinks the helium-filled craft will allow his team to succeed where others have failed due to its unprecedented advantages in two key areas: stealth and maneuverability.

The camera aboard the craft can film in infrared, thermal imaging and high definition. And as the ship scans densely wooded regions from a penetrating vantage, it will never spook a potential subject with a broken twig or run out of breath in a one-sided foot race, Barnes believes. [Want to Shoot Bigfoot? It's Legal in Texas]

Thanks to its gyroscopically stabilized housing, the ship's camera is protected against a common shortcoming of purported video footage of quasi-mythical creatures: a suspiciously shaky image.

While there has never been any definitive evidence suggesting that giant bipedal apes roam the wilds of North America largely undetected, the Falcon Project does have a bona fide scientist as its principal investigator.

Jeff Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University, is the rare academic who entertains and actively investigates the possibility that Bigfoot, or something like it, exists.

"Even if definitive DNA sequence data point to the existence of a novel species, it will not suddenly become easy to study such a rare and elusive primate in the field. That's where the Falcon Project comes in," said Meldrum.

In 2011, Meldrum was invited to take part in a high-profile Russian expedition to find that country's brand of unverified wildman, the yeti. The expedition garnered international attention when researchers claimed to have found "indisputable proof" of the yeti, but Meldrum concluded the entire expedition seemed to be an orchestrated publicity stunt, with all of the supposed evidence planted in advance, according to AOL.com.

The Falcon Project's custom-built airship, called the Aurora Mk II, is being constructed by Canada-based Remote Aerial Tripods Inc., and is expected to be completed in the spring, according to tech website Gizmag.

Meldrum gives more credibility to Bigfoot's existence than most scientists, but a 2012 public opinion poll found that about a third of Americans believe the creature is probably real.

A Possible Origin Of Sasquatch - Bigfoot Evidence

Editor’s Note: This is a guest post by David Batdorf, a Sasquatch enthusiast that is interested in taking an anthropological, bird's-eye-view of the phenomenon and an advocate for species protection. Basically, he's a Bigfoot nerd.

In my last two posts, Sasquatch: Human vs Ape and The Ambiguous Gigantopithecus, I discussed my opinions, as to the likely origins of Sasquatch. I'd like to discuss the topic further utilizing what is known about protohuman migrations, periodic glaciation and the appearance of land bridges.

I will attempt to build a hypothetical model of the potential origin of the Sasquatch, identify which common ancestor we most likely share, offer suggestions for how they got to North America and when that migration could have occurred.

NOTE: I will focus on the Bering Land Bridge. However, I would like to point out that, similarly, the Sumatran Land Bridge is affected by the same rise and retreat of the oceans, offering access to the islands and in some cases, Australia...

The difference between; "Ice Ages" and "Periods of Glaciation"

Most people refer to the most recent peak of extreme glaciation, as the last "Ice Age". The last glacial maximum or peak, in which, the first modern humans crossed the Bering land bridge, or Beringia, occurred 10,000 - 14,000 years ago. The Current Ice Age, also known as, Pleistocene Glaciation, Quaternary Glaciation or simply, "The Ice Age", has actually been underway for 2.58 million years. During this ice age, there have been several glacial periods and interglacial periods. Glacial peaks, known as a "glacial maximums", occur within glacial periods. Periods of glaciation, their peaks and interglacial periods are calculated by measuring the C02 levels in sediments and rocks, then inferring the amount of ice present and temperature changes.

Glaciers, being comprised of compacted snow, are usually formed on high mountains that collect precipitating clouds against their peaks. They slowly and powerfully flow like rivers to lower elevations, shaping the land as they go. It is this inland entrapment of water, that at times of extreme glaciation is over a mile thick, that leads to decreased sea levels and thus, the emergence of land bridges.

At our most recent glacial maximum, the Beringia land bridge was likely one thousand miles, from North to South, or roughly the distance from Seattle to San Francisco, spanned between Alaska and Siberia and not covered in ice, as many would imagine. It was a lush forest environment, much like the Alaskan and Canadian coastline and interior of today. To many of those who inhabited the region, Beringia would have been a seemingly endless, bountiful refuge as the glaciers encroached from the mountains on either side.

Narrowing the Timeline

I choose the development of bipedalism as a precursory point to divergence of modern humans and Sasquatch. If this occurred 4.75 million years ago and the period of Quaternary Glaciation began 2.58 million years ago, we can cut the amount of time we need to look at for the Sasquatch crossing to America nearly, in half.

Glacial maximums and the extremes to which glaciation occurred have been measured, dated and named, within the last Ice Age. The periods of glaciation, from the most recent to oldest with glacial peaks extreme enough to open the land bridge are: Wisconsin or Wurm; Illinois or Riss; Kansasian or Mindel; and Nebraska or Guns. Prior to Nebraska, at about 1 million years ago, there were no glacial maximums that exceed our current level of ice, today and would likely have left Beringia underwater.

Within each these named periods are multiple glacial peaks or maximums. The third peak of the Wisconsin period is where modern people from Siberia came to America 10,000-14,000 years ago. It spans the shift from the Pleistocene to the Halocene Epoch and is still in recession.

NOTE: Pleistocene Mammalian Gigantism has long been a theory of why Sasquatch is so large. In my hypothetical model, if Sasquatch shares common ancestry with us at an overall maximum of 4.75 million years ago and a first potential crossing at 1 million years ago, this gives Sasquatch 3.75 million years of evolution to adapt to a life in the Northern coniferous forest. More than enough time to do so, if only a fraction of that time. Many of those years could have been spent reacting to pressures of other mammals becoming giants and may have followed suit as a predatory or a defense mechanism.

Sasquatch, Out of Africa?!

One reason that the Sasquatch' progenitors may have been on the move is due to the Miocene to Pliocene shift that occurred 5.3 million years ago, which began the deforestation and drying out of Africa. This major environmental change began prior to our specialized bipedal adaptations and is thought to have been the catalyst for the end of our progenitor’s arboreal lifestyle, by forcing us into the growing grassland. By the beginning of our Quanternary Glacial period and Pleistocene Epoch, 2.58 million years ago, human progenitors were upright, but still very different from our more modern variants.

There is much evidence that the exodus from Africa may have happened much earlier than was thought, 30-40 years ago. Homo erectus, was one of the first, longest lived and the second-most widespread of our Genus (second, only to our own subspecies of H. sapiens). They were also the first candidate for the widespread, but not complete global population, for a number of reasons. They are found at 1.8 million years ago and survived, at least, to 500,000 years ago. Some say as little as 65,000 - 35,000 years ago.

Like modern humans on their way to Siberia, Homo erectus' movement from Africa to Eurasia was also controlled by climate change and glaciers, even at their tropical latitude. Sea levels, controlled by the glacial maximums, flooded and drained the rout out of Africa many times during the unimaginably-long reign of H. erectus.

Looking back over the periods of extreme glaciation, one could argue that; IF Sasquatch likely shares a common ancestor with humans, to support a bipedal primate; AND that bipedal ancestor was not our own subspecies; THEN their ancestor's exodus from Africa would have been limited to the waves of H. erectus or H. heidelbergensis that made it to East Asia. (I will explain why I feel Heidelbergensis is unlikely)

There is, of course, no evidence of Sasquatch being related to Homo erectus or Homo heidelbergensis, but there were many hominids living in Africa in the late Pleistocene... however, no other species are documented to have left for Asia, until our own subspecies did somewhere between 125,000-80,000 years ago. Anatomically modern humans appear in africa at 200,000-150,000 years ago, or over 1.5 million years after H. Erectus spread from Africa and likely, as a secondary descendant of the H. erectus that remained in Africa. Erectus has been found from Africa, to Europe, to the East Asian/Chinese coast, all the way down through Sumatra.

Why I choose Erectus

There are many popular theories involving P. bosei or Neanderthal man or H. heidelbergensis as possible origins for Sasquatch, as a surviving relic Hominin. I have personally entertained many of these hypothesis, however, through more research into these amazing species, I found them all to be unlikely.

Paranthropus bosei is out, due to a lack of evidence of ever having left their relatively small geographical niche. This is likely due to their specialized diet and adaptations and likely what lead to their demise.

Neanderthals were highly developed tool/weapon makers and users of fire. Their genetic closeness and somewhat recent, shared lineage with us makes it unlikely that these are the non technological, morphologically different Hominin that we seek.

The Homo heidelbergensis question is one that I have looked at in detail, because some pieces seem to fit. Unfortunately, the more I looked, the less likely it became. The Heidelberg Man is the likely progenitor of anatomically modern humans, the Neanderthal and arguably. Their oldest fossils have been called into question, as they may potentially be that of Erectus and the more recent fossils are said to be proto-sapiens, not Heidelbergensis. Their range was similar to that of Erectus, however, slightly smaller and much more recent. The argued beginning of their reign is 800,000 years ago, or about the same time Erectus was already in East Asia. H. heidelbergensis did not arrive in NE China until 280,000 years ago, at the earliest. This only allows them the same, reasonable access that we had to Siberia in the interglacial period before the most recent, Wisconsin glacial period. Heidelbergensis also began their evolutionary journey with the knowledge and technology of the later, more evolved and advanced Erectus, in Africa.

Homo erectus is unique, because many of the adaptations passed to modern Hominin, like brain size, complex tool making and the use of fire, were developed over their approximate 1.5 million year reign. Brain size is of particular interest, as it lead to the other cultural and technological advances associated with Homo that were passed on to the Heidelberg Man and then us, in Africa. There is an interesting correlation with brain growth and the speed of adolescent development. In the Turkana Boy fossils, we find evidence that adolescent growth was much more rapid than in our own species. This leads to less time for brain growth, similar to nonhuman apes. We find that their cranial vaults began very small in comparison to modern skulls and that their children developed much faster, probably due to environmental stresses to grow up fast. It wasn’t until around 800,000 years ago, in the time of the first transitional Heidelbergensis, that Erectus’ brain was nearing the size of a modern human.

Prior to this, there was around 1 million years of crude tool use and no concrete evidence of an ability to use, make or control fire. More interesting, still, is the fact that there is little-to-no evidence of tools even as simple as a bilateral hand-axe in Eastern Asia, prior to the coincidental appearance of Heidelbergensis, some 500,000 years after Erectus settled there. Also, Erectus does not decidedly use fire until 300,000 - 400,000 years ago, in Europe, well into the time of Heidelbergensis and possibly even Neanderthal.

When looking into the other potential candidates, I cant help but note the fact that Erectus may have crossed into the Americas as early as 350,000 years ago, but would not have been joined by more modern or evolved Hominin in China until 280,000 years ago, or 70,000 years after the potential crossing.

Did Erectus travel to Siberia and become isolated from the waves of subsequent Hominin, or were they already in the Americas and simply returned to Asia, after much evolutionary stress and divergence? Unfortunately, there is no concrete evidence that this actually occurred.

What Does This All Mean, Exactly?

This means that these early, relic humans were migrating, separating and diverging since their evolutionary debut. The H. erectus people likely gave way to Heidelbergenisis (who gave way to Neanderthal and “us”), Florensius and a host of other distinct, post-African, geographical variants, likely including the Red Deer Cave specimen and possibly the forbearers of the Denisova specimen.

Why not, Sasquatch? I would argue that this is a likely scenario, for the above and further reasons. Homo erectus is the most likely candidate to carry the traits of bipedalism to Sasquatch half-a-world-away, while maintaining a less technological lifestyle, as was seen in early East Asian finds. This also means that, in a hunt for Sasquatch fossils, we should be searching the sediment at less than, but a maximum of, 1.8 million years and that Sasquatch divergence from us is less than that total amount of time. Probably MUCH less.

I am not suggesting that Sasquatch is Homo erectus. My hypothesis is that Sasquatch was, like so many other Hominin, preceded by Homo erectus and became their own specific variant. The obvious conclusion in this model, therefore, would be that Sasquatch is of the Genus Homo, so technically, a human... yeah, I went there. Are you surprised?!

Now, Back to Beringia!

If we know that H. erectus was in China by about 780,000-680,000 years ago, we could assume that they may have made it farther North, as this was during an extremely long interglacial period and routs would have been open and very inviting, by today's standards. Beringia would not be potentially open again until the Mindel/Kansasian period, about 350,000-250,000 years ago. This would be the first potential crossing in this model. It is likely that H. erectus was living in East Asia long before the documented fossil find and had access to the earlier, deep glacial peaks, however, there is no evidence to support such claims, so I default to the following period.

We know that the mammalian megafauna had been migrating from Asia to N. America for some time, by 350,000 years ago. H. Erectus, being a mammal eater, would likely have followed his quarry, just as the Native American ancestors did. This is, of course, assuming that they were able to adapt to the climate.

For Erectus, this would have been a test in evolution, rather than our anatomically modern ancestor's ingenuity and environmental manipulation. Like other mammals of the time, thick coats and a gigantic stature would have done the trick to conserve heat and make use of available calories, as well as offer protection from enlarged prey.

If these natural occurring adaptations took place over the course of a minimum of 380,000-480,000 years (divergence between modern human and Neandethal has been dated at 500,000 years), is it possible that Sasquatch was a new and highly adapted variant on Erectus that crossed into America at a maximum of 350,000 years ago? Was that group separated from the Almas and Yeti of Asia by the rising oceans in Beringia? Were the subsequent openings of Beringia and meetings between the cutoff cousins an explanation for the variations seen in different areas in Asia and N. America?

If you take divergent evolution into account, look at what we have become and what the first H. erectus were and imagine something with a completely different set of climate and habitat needs... AND the unimaginably-long timeframe... maybe, Sasquatch is not so far fetched. Future Siberian fossil finds of H. erectus could potentially answer many, longstanding questions... this, I feel, is the missing piece to the puzzle. Siberia has produced more preserved specimen (Mammoth, etc...) than Alaska.

In Conclusion

For Sasquatch to exist as a bipedal North American Hominid, there has to be a Hominid that transported the traits of bipedalism from Africa to Siberia and then on to the Americas. If that Hominid was not a Homo sapiens subspecies or other post-African cousins, which I find unlikely, then it must have roots in an earlier, widespread Hominid.

Because of the dispersal of fossils in the scientific record, I suggest that the most likely candidate is the prolific creator of Homo species, the well traveled and diverse, Homo erectus.

To find Bigfoot, we need to have an idea of what this creature needs to thrive not survive. Survival is a hard way of life even for forest dwellers. Therefore, all animals seek areas where they thrive. They need to eat well, have an environment of safety, and a place to raise off-spring.

Bigfoot being a large animal would need plenty of good clear water from springs, or creeks. They do not prefer pond water which is usually contaminated with mud, silt, and fecal matter from other watering animals.

An eight foot, eight hundred pound creature would need plenty of food. Their area must contain a large variety and quantity of food sources. Since most Bigfoot researchers believe Bigfoot to be omnivorous, the area must contain large quantities of edible plant matter as well as game to eat. Some of the plants you can look for are fruit trees, berries, grapes, choke cherries, ferns, wild onions, pinion nuts, acorns, black walnuts, sweet grass, and much more. As far as animals go, look for deer, elk, antelope, javilina, bear, cows, dogs, cats, pigs, fish, and crayfish etc. You must also consider insect populations such as grasshoppers, crickets, and earth worms.

The next thing Bigfoot requires to thrive is foliage. Bigfoot is cryptic in nature and prefers to remain hidden. Very think underbrush or forests provide for this need. They are very rarely found in open areas where they cannot hide. Combining the fact most Bigfoot are black or brown, have dark skin, and are nocturnal in nature, it makes it very difficult to see let alone photograph the creature.

Bigfoot needs the absence of man. This criterion is constantly changing for the Bigfoot. Man keeps encroaching on Bigfoot’s territories making it more and more difficult to find places to thrive in peace and safety. However in the human world, this presents a “Catch 22” for the Bigfoot. On one side, Humans want to know about such an animal, and there is a scientific need for a Bigfoot corpse to establish the actual existence of such an animal. On the other hand, Bigfoot could be considered an “extreme endangered species” and needs the protection as such.

Bigfoot Researchers have their own methods of locating the creatures in their area. Some use sweet treats, peanut butter, trout, and other goodies to try to lure them in for a photo or video. Others combine the treats with what is called habituation, where the researchers try to befriend the Bigfoot through consistent presence in the area. Perhaps, there is another way.

2012 Pine Ridge Bigfoot Video - Cryptomundo

Paul Smith Bigfoot

The image may be clicked to enlarge it. Does the Pine Ridge Bigfoot look like this one drawn by Paul Smith for the cover of my book Bigfoot! The True Story of Apes in America?

Reports from the Oglala Sioux Nation (Pine Ridge Reservation), South Dakota, regarding what is described as Big Man or Bigfoot have been discussed here at Cryptomundo from the beginning of this site. These have includied Pine Ridge sightings from July 28, 2006, an update for more encounters on July 29-30, 2006, more from August 2006 of a Bigfoot being shoot, another August 2006 sighting, reports on the 2006 police audio (here and here), the police chief confirming the 2006 sightings, more on the 2006 “stovepipe hat” Bigfoot accounts, and a September 2006 update. Click here and here for more Oglala Sioux updates through 2009.

Yesterday, I discovered this video on YouTube that seems to have been overlooked from a few months ago. It has many features about it that look credible. Take a look.

Two 10 am Updates:

The running speed of this alleged Bigfoot compares favorably with the running alleged Bigfoot in the Memorial Day footage.

Interview items placed at YouTube. This video has flown under the radar of Sasquatch investigators, and I note the filmmaker & poster have not promoted it at all. The increase in viewer numbers is only due to its posting here at Cryptomundo at midnight on Tuesday October 9, 2012.

More Sounds From Central Michigan, One of The Most Active Locations In The U.S. - Bigfoot Evidence

BFRO investigator Jim Sherman has recorded some interesting vocalizations in Central Michigan. Some of his recordings from Isabella county includes a knock response and 20 minutes of howling. Matt Moneymaker claims Sherman's research location is probably the most active site in the U.S.

Here's another audio clip from the same area in Central Michigan. This recording was made in early April 2011. After he heard the following sequence of unknown vocalizations, Sherman said he was pumped up and made the decision to camp at the the same spot for a few days. "The whole thing fired up the barn animals and the coyotes and lasted for over 20 minutes. I make no claims as to what this is but it coincided with coyote vocals and was very interesting," he said.
Central Michigan. Taken from a fence post facing northeast. Around 11:30pm. The coyotes started the cacophony along with the local dogs, the goats and horses began to respond soon after. The whole clip lasted for 20 minutes but I eliminated most of the obvious coyote and dog howls and barks. The loudest of the vocals came from about 400 m away near a clearing I would camp in 4 days later...not a lot of sleeping that night.

Hardcore Outdoorsman Finds a Bigfoot Track - Bigfoot Evidence

It's possible that some Bigfoot sightings being reported by people are just misidentified animal reports. But what about the tracks that people find in the middle of nowhere? The photo above obviously isn't a bear track, and the impression seems deep enough to suggest that something big and heavy made the print. According to an outdoorsman for Hardcore Outdoors, who specializes in hunting videos and guided hunts, he discovered the footprint above while camping in "very secluded camp" somewhere in Texas. The tracks were 12 to 13 inches long and pressed deep into the mud. "My buddy Shawn was with me & he is 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 385 pounds & wears a size 14 boot & he couldn't push his foot that deep in the mud beside the tracks!" he wrote on Facebook.

If I hadn't seen this myself I'd NEVER have believed it! We parked the boat on the west bank of an old slough this past Friday evening about a mile from our very secluded camp, hunted, killed the hog I posted a pic of that same night, drug the hog out & went back to camp. That night the temperature went from 79 degrees to about 45 degrees with 40pmh gusting winds all night long, there was a man with his wife & young grandson that were camped next to us but they were fishing & I know for a FACT they never left camp that night because I was sleeping close to our boats. Saturday morning we fought the wind & waves up the cove & into the same slough from the night before, parked the boat in the same spot & there were these tracks. Whoever or whatever left these tracks waded across the slough in about knee deep water in the middle of the night in 45 degree weather in their bare feet, the tracks were very visible across the shallow water all the way up onto the bank till it hit gravel & they were gone. They were NOT 15 to 18 inches long like I've always heard but were about 12 to 13 inches long but the tracks were pressed deep into the mud, my buddy Shawn was with me & he is 6 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 385 pounds & wears a size 14 boot & he couldn't push his foot that deep in the mud beside the tracks! Another thing about these tracks is that the right foot seems to be missing the little toe, I SWEAR I didn't pay much attention to the little track next to it till I got it on my computer just now. I sent it to a good friend who is also one of my cameramen last late night via cell phone & he asked me about the little track & I told him it looked like the rear foot of a raccoon. Now, on the bigger computer screen it looks like a miniature version of the big track! I can't honestly say what I think about this but here's the pic & the real story behind it, you be the judge!

Stilwell Bigfoot Symposium: Bigfoot Throws Grass Balls - Bigfoot Lunch Club

These are not the grass balls your looking forThe above picture is what we had in mind when we heard of the grass balls being thrown at the MABRC   investigation team back in June 2009. Although not what we had in mind, the actual grass balls are even more fascinating, they appear to be quickly twisted blades of grass (see image below), which would seem like unlikely projectiles, unless you had the throwing arm of a Sasquatch. Last Saturday, October 6, 2012, grass balls like the ones pictured above were showcased at the Stilwell Symposium hosted by Mid-American Bigfoot Research Center led by D.W. Lee. Thanks to Abe Del Rio, founder and director of the Minnesota Big Foot Research Team, who brought the grass balls to our attention. He spoke at the symposium and also has a great Blog Talk Radio show.

Grass balls are new to us, but not outside the dexterity required by other speculated Sasquatch behavior like wrapping dead mice in grass or braiding horse hair. In fact, these grass balls seem pretty quick and easy to create. What we also like about the report (excerpt below) is there was also a sighting D.W. himself, a seasoned field investigator not prone to mis-identification.

Below with DW's permission we have an excerpt of the grass ball report originally posted at the MABRC Forums.

We set up our chairs with everyone facing down slope, with me occasionally looking up towards the top of the slope. As darkness fell, I put a small battery powered lantern on top of the blazer, hoping to attract attention.
About a hour after complete darkness, the landowner's son was sitting on the 4 wheeler when something hit him in the back, and we assumed that it was a bug flew into him. Then the landowner's wife was struck in the stomach with something, and thought it was a bug. This all began about 10 PM. About 5 minutes later, something struck her foot, and she was sitting furthest away from everyone. Her son took a flashlight and was looking for a rock when he found a bundle of grass that had been wrapped up with other pieces of grass, and made into basically a ball. Moments later, another object struck her, and this time it happened when a light was shining on her and the object was seen falling to the ground, it was the same type of bundled grass that had been found earlier.I took the objects that we found and took a picture of them, I then took my night scope and began looking the surrounding area over, to our southwest in the far corner of the field, I spotted a large bi-pedal animal coming up towards us, when I painted him with the IR light on night scope, it ducked down into the vegetation. I handed the night scope to Cherokee Rose and she observed for about 5 minutes on that location and it never got back up. I would estimate it was about 7 feet tall, as a good portion of it was viewable over the height of the vegetation. It was also light color, either light brown or even possibly greyish. It is a possibility that it's the light brown one that was seen last week by the landowner's wife.We had done a controlled wood knock at 9:30 PM, and after the creature was seen in the corner of the field, we began hearing single wood knocks at approx. 1 minute intervals traveling in the woodline to our west near the gate to the field. The distance was approximated at about 100 feet between knocks traveling to the north.By 11:00 PM, the "balls" of grass being thrown and started slowing down, and I decided it was time for a face to face to occur with the thrower, so I picked up my small flashlight and walked out to where we thought the creatures would be laying, throwing the grass at us. I traveled about 75 feet out into the brush, and discovered trails were something had been crawling through (Will be going back out there today to take pictures of these trails.) and even where they had been possibly pulling the grass up.While I was out there hoping to surprise one into standing up. A grass "ball" was thrown from the opposite side of where we were sitting, hitting the landowner's son in the back. With this, we got spotlights out and began going through the field trying to jump anything, as we felt there were several creatures in the field with us now. No sooner than we returned to our sitting area, one last "ball" came sailing in. After that, things calmed down and the landowners expressed a desire to leave since they had to get up early the next morning to go on a trip.

Jane Goodall 'Fascinated' By Bigfoot - Huffington Post

The most famous primatologist in the world is ape about Bigfoot.

Jane Goodall made her name studying chimpanzees in Africa and by discovering that they, like humans, use tools.

Since then, she has been working to preserve their decreasing numbers via the Jane Goodall Insititute. She also admitted to an interest in the mysterious creature known as Bigfoot, Sasquatch or the Yeti.

"I'm not going to flat-out deny its existence," Goodall said during an exclusive interview with The Huffington Post before a benefit dinner in La Jolla, Calif. "I'm fascinated and would actually love them to exist.

"Of course, it's strange that there has never been a single authentic hide or hair of the Bigfoot, but I've read all the accounts."

As a motor biker was driving through the Grand River area of Ohio in April 2012, an alleged Bigfoot ran across the road and was caught on videotape.

Depicted is an illustration of a creature reported to inhabit the Kemerovo region of Siberia. Scientists from the U.S., Russia and other countries have yet to find one of these creatures known as the Russian Snowman. In early October, researchers claimed to be 95 percent certain that the animal exists.

An alleged footprint of a Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, appears in snow near Mount Everest in 1951. Now, scientists are setting out to find evidence of a reported unknown, hairy, bipedal creature known as the Siberian Snowman.

Bigfoot or bear? Impression left on the driver's side window of a pickup truck owned by Jeffrey Gonzalez. The bizarre image was left by an alleged Bigfoot in California's Sierra National Forest over Memorial Day 2011. DNA samples of the impressions will eventually determine the identity of the animal responsible for them. (See next slide for a close-up of the paw-like impression.)

Close-up of the "paw" print image. The impression was reportedly left by Bigfoot on the window of a pickup truck in the California Sierra National Forest over Memorial Day weekend 2011.

Bigfoot or bear? Pictured is a second impression left on the rear side window of the same truck from the previous slides. According to forensic/law enforcement photographer Mickey Burrow, "What you're seeing is a swipe mark. It looks like a small hand, swiping to the left, leaving another impression, and there's hair within those areas -- you can see where the hair would be."

This footprint was found over Memorial Day weekend, 2011, near Fresno, Calif. by a group of campers who were on a Bigfoot-hunting expedition. The print, measuring approximately 12 inches, was found near a truck where possible DNA evidence was left behind by more than one Bigfoot creature.

A film still shows what former rodeo rider Roger Patterson said is the American version of the Abominable Snowman. He said pictures of the creature, estimated at 7 1/2 feet tall, were taken northeast of Eureka, Calif., in October 1967.

This footprint was found in 2008 in the Sierra National Forest near Fresno, Calif.

Thomas Byers snapped this photo of "Bigfoot" along Golden Valley Church Road in Rutherford County on March 22, 2011.

Bill Willard is the leader of a group searching for evidence of a Sasquatch or Bigfoot creature, spotted by, among others, his two sons in Spotsylvania County. He is shown on May 19 in Thornburg, Va., with a plaster cast he made from a suspicious footprint several years ago.

This still frame image from video provided by Bigfoot Global LLC shows what Whitton and Dyer claimed was a Bigfoot or Sasquatch creature in an undisclosed area of a northern Georgia forest in June 2008.

This October 2007 image was taken by an automated camera set up by a hunter in a Pennsylvania forest the previous month. Some said it was a Bigfoot creature; others believed it was just a sick bear.

A preserved skull and hand said to be that of a Yeti or Abominable Snowman is on display at Pangboche monastery, near Mount Everest.

Idaho State University professor Jeffrey Meldrum displays what he said is a cast of a Bigfoot footprint from eastern Washington in September 2006. Some scientists said the school should revoke Meldrum's tenure.

Joedy Cook, director of the Ohio Center for Bigfoot Studies, talks to a visitor to his booth on Oct. 15, 2005, at the Texas Bigfoot Conference in Jefferson, Texas. The event, hosted by the Texas Bigfoot Research Center, drew enthusiasts and researchers of the legendary creature.

Ken Gerhard of Houston, Texas, holds a duplicate plaster cast footprint Oct. 15, 2005, at the Texas Bigfoot Conference. The event, hosted by the Texas Bigfoot Research Center, drew enthusiasts and researchers of the legendary creature.

Josh Gates, host of Syfy TV's "Destination: Truth," holds a plaster cast of what Malaysian ghost hunters said was a Bigfoot footprint in 2006.

Al Hodgson, a volunteer guide at the Willow Creek-China Flat Musuem in California, holds up a plaster cast of an alleged Bigfoot imprint in 2000. The museum houses a collection of research material donated by the estate of Bob Titmus, who spent his life trying to track the creature.

Costume maker Philip Morris, who does not believe the Bigfoot legend, claimed the Patterson-Gimlin film showed a person wearing a gorilla suit that he made.

Goodall is perhaps the most famous natural scientist to at least entertain the notion that the creatures exist. In 2002, she said during an interview with NPR that she was sure of it.

"I've talked to so many native Americans who all describe the same sounds, two who have seen them. I've probably got about, oh, 30 books that have come from different parts of the world, from China from, from all over the place, and there was a little tiny snippet in the newspaper just last week which says that British scientists have found what they believed to be a yeti hair and that the scientists in the Natural History Museum in London couldn't identify it as any known animal," she told interviewer Ira Flatow.

Goodall conceded there hasn't been the smoking gun that proves the existence of Sasquatch, and told Flatow, "of course, the big, the big criticism of all this is, 'Where is the body?' You know, why isn't there a body? I can't answer that, and maybe they don't exist, but I want them to."

While Goodall is interested in what other researchers are doing in regards to Bigfoot, protecting chimpanzees and other great apes keeps her too busy to comb the woods of North America searching herself.

"Chimpanzees are very endangered," she told HuffPost. "They only live in Africa and when I began in 1960, there were probably close to 2 million living in Africa. Today, it's less than 300,000 spread over 21 nations with the only significant numbers in the Congo."

Most people grasp the concept of ape extinction on an abstract basis, but Goodall said she believes that when they see live primates such as Crystal the capuchin monkey on the new NBC sitcom "Animal Practice," they inadvertantly assume the animals aren't endangered.

"I think people have been getting the wrong message through Hollywood and other such outfits for a very long time," she said. "People don't realize, first, the cruelty, to train the chimp for entertainment. You must take it away from its mother when it's very young, so the little thing never has the chance to learn how to be a chimp because they learn, just as we do.

"By the time they're 7 or 8 and too strong to be used as entertainment or pets, or whatever people have taken them for, by then, they don't know how to be a chimp so their future is pretty bleak."

Goodall can be seen Oct. 9 when Animal Planet airs "Jane's Journey," a 2010 documentary about her life and work.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of the story incorrectly referred to The Jane Goodall Insitute as The Jane Goodall Foundation.

Here's The GPS Coordinates To Where You Can Find At Least 3 Bigfoots In Iowa - Bigfoot Evidence

The following report is the reason why we believe there's a 9' tall hairy bipedal hominid in North America. A father and his son were out fishing 9 days ago (September 21) when they were visited by three Bigfoots. One Bigfoot got as close as 50ft from the fishermen and another one stopped to watch them at a distance of about 75ft. According to the fishermen, the figures started to scream and grunt and it sounded like more were on their way to the location.

This is one of the creepiest reports we've read about this year and with this being so recent, we recommend that serious researchers punch in the following GPS coordinates: 42.514765,-90.842826 which takes you to a public access area in Dubuque County, Iowa.

Here's the BFRO report, submitted by the witness on Friday, September 21, 2012:

YEAR: 2012
SEASON: Fall
MONTH: September
DATE: 21
STATE: Iowa
COUNTY: Dubuque County
LOCATION DETAILS: Public access area, secluded, running water, and wooded
NEAREST TOWN: Graf
NEAREST ROAD: Twin Springs Drive

OBSERVED: I took my son Myles fishing behind Sundown Mountain ski resort. We turned west off of Asbury road on to Twin Springs Drive, where there is access to the stream. I had been promising my son some night fishing. We sat on a couple of buckets facing south, to the rock out cropping and wooded area across the creek. We were fishing in the deeper water across the creek near the rocks.

We heard sticks breaking and rustling which I assumed were coons, as this is a good coon area. Then we noticed something larger coming toward the other side of the creek from a distance. Thinking that this is one of many deer that we often see, thought nothing of it until we caught sight of it in the back-light of the city or moon from the other side of the hill we were facing. This was a large bipedal animal, very unlikely to be a person, this time of night without a light (although we were fishing without a light source also). It came up to the top of the rock out cropping direct across from us and stood between two trees. It then squatted down and just sat there watching us. My son was scared, and I was intrigued. Within 10 minutes another came to join the first to his right and stayed just across a ravine. No more than 6 minutes later another came from the south, just to the left of the one squatting across from us. As this one got close, it let out a piercing shriek. Nothing like the calls that are heard on the TV shows. This was high pitched and frightening. The other two took notice and began to move toward the shrieking Squatch. At this point we had had enough and grabbed our fishing gear and ran back to the truck. The GPS location is as follows: 42.514765,-90.842826

ALSO NOTICED: More were coming.
OTHER WITNESSES: Two witnesses. We were fishing
OTHER STORIES: Nothing that we took seriously.
TIME AND CONDITIONS: Between 7:50-8:30 - occasional sprinkling of rain, dark with a bit of back light from over the hill
ENVIRONMENT: Hard wood forest, creek bottom

Follow-up investigation report by BFRO Investigator Steve Moon:

On a Friday evening a father and his ten year old son were fishing on a small creek across from a rock face at the bottom of a hill in a large valley.

Map of the area:

It was just at dusk. They had walked in and were sitting on five gallon buckets, with their lines in the water. Sticks were heard cracking on the bluff side of the creek. There was a half moon lighting the sky and the two could see up through the trees. A silhouette of what the father thought was a guy walking through the trees could be seen. The figure looked large, and seemed taller and broader than a man. It came toward the creek and suddenly stopped dead and side-stepped behind a tree. It then took another side-step to a position between the two trees just above the bluff in the center of this image, taken from the vantage point of the witnesses, and squatted down.

The father didn’t say anything for a bit, not wanting to scare his son. His son said “Do you see that?” The father asked the boy what he thought it was. The son answered “Its a sasquatch.”

Close-up of the two trees where the first figure squatted to watch the witnesses fishing:

The two sat quietly talking for a few minutes and then noticed more movement toward their left, coming from the same direction that the first figure had come.

The second figure came from this area, to the left of the first figure. Image taken from the vantage point of the witnesses.

Close-up of the area where the second figure entered:
There is a ravine that comes down to the river there, and the father thinks the figures were headed for that. The second figure also stopped, leaned against a tree and was quiet. Then from the right, further up the hill a third figure could be seen moving through a clearing or open field.

The third figure entered from the right, image taken from the vantage point of the witnesses:

The father and son got a really good look at the third figure. This figure was smaller than the other two. It took a few steps inside the woods and then let out two piercing screams. As soon as the first scream stopped echoing down the valley the second scream was heard. When the third figure screamed the first figure responded with a guttural grunt and then both of the closer figures got up and walked toward the third figure. It was at this point that the two fishermen decided that it was time for them to leave. They were back at their truck by about 8:20 or 8:30 pm.

The father stated that the entire scene was like watching a stage set. The three figures and all of the trees were silhouetted against the moonlit sky and backlight. The first figure stopped at an estimated distance of about 50ft from the fishermen. The second figure stopped at a distance of about 75ft, and the third figure was quite a bit further away.

The figures took long casual strides when moving, with big long arm swings. The eyes could not be seen of any of the figures.

When I spoke with the son he said that he was confused when the first figure walked up, but then got a better look and noticed what it was. At that point he got scared. He described the first figure as being tall and wide with broad shoulders. The second figure he described as being the same size as the first. The third figure was not as large, but looked similar to the first two. He said that he wouldn’t go back to that place at night.

The father said that he didn’t feel in danger. The menacing feeling wasn’t there.

The father returned the next day and took several GPS readings of where the figures were, and also took photographs. He reports that he has talked his son into returning at night, and this time they are taking a camera. He said he’s “got the bug.” He and his son will both be joining me on a private expedition in the near future. I interviewed both the father and son on telephone, and found them to be very credible and observant witnesses.

This incident occurred 6.5 miles up-valley in the upper reaches of the Little Maquoketa River, and about one year later than report #30530 . The father and son were fishing the Little Maquoketa River, which is a tributary stream of the Mississippi River to the east. This is a very small drainage in a basin that is less than 40 square miles in size. The valley that the Little Maquoketa River runs through is deep with steep limestone bluffs and slopes that are heavily wooded. Where this incident occurred the valley is 400 ft deep. There are many springs and small tributary streams that feed into the Little Maquoketa in this hydrologically active valley.
